It sometimes seems that author's websites are more frequently guilty of usability faux-pas than any other sector (a statement sure to be proved wrong within minutes). Dear Author a literary website for fans of romance novels has a great common sense list of the most common gaffes made by writers when establishing an online presence. While this is not a technical appraisal of semantic code, validated css or anything of that sort it does point out some of the obvious mistakes that are being made such as slow load times, flash intros and horrible "muzak" soundtracks.
